PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The officials of the minority-owned online gambling platform Barstool Sportsbook plan on launching its mobile app in every state with legal sports betting by the end of 2021.

Jay Snowden, Penn National Gaming CEO, believes the app will launch in states around the country after launching in Pennsylvania last month and receiving 21,000 downloads per day on the debut weekend.

“As you get into 2021, I think you should expect for us to be in every state that’s legal, where we operate and can launch by the end of 2021,” said Snowden. “We’ll be in well over a dozen states by the end of the calendar year.”

  • Penn National’s leader Jay Snowden wants the Barstool app live in Michigan as soon as it is approved. So far, the app is only live in PA, the regional gambling company’s home state. Barstool Sportsbook will be ready at the launch of Michigan online sports betting, according to the CEO of its parent company. Jay Snowden of Penn National Gaming told Fantini Research in a video interview released Wednesday that Michigan will be the second state for the Barstool app to launch in.

The company also plans on launching in Michigan in November and has realized that the success of the app is only the start of growth in online legal sports betting.

The push for online sports betting platforms in many states did not start or even begin to be considered until the coronavirus pandemic affected retail casinos around the country.

“It’s very high on the priority list right now because the couple of states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania had authorized [sports betting] pre-COVID,” Snowden said. “People went online, they were still able to participate in casino gambling, sports wagering, whatever sports were available, and other states took note of that. I think you’re going to see this proliferate much quicker going forward than maybe most thought about at the beginning of this year.”
